Here you will find some common questions I receive. Please reach out to me if you cannot find an answer to your question.
At the moment, I am only offering online therapy due to my remote location. I appreciate that online therapy can offer many people access to specialized mental health supports; however, I understand some people prefer to work in-person. Please contact me or see my "Resources" page if you are looking for other counselling or mental health resources.
At the moment, I primarily work with individual clients, but I have training in family models of therapy and am open to having a conversation to determine whether we can work together effectively based on you and your loved ones' needs.
I am currently a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Although I am a recent graduate, I have been in various support roles in the mental health field for nearly 10 years. I started my mental health journey with lived experience and personal counselling, which inspired me to give back to others in a meaningful way. I understand how important a strong therapeutic relationship is to one's healing journey and positive experience in counselling. I have completed two psychology degrees and worked or volunteered in a variety of helping positions. Some populations I have worked in include adults and youth in recovery from eating disorders, at-risk youth experiencing family and relationship conflict, individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction, and Indigenous youth in the foster care system. During my counselling studies, I had the honor of working with the eating disorders population as a counselling intern. I continue to work with the Looking Glass Foundation for Eating Disorders in their counselling program. It is my commitment to ensure I am receiving ongoing training and supervision from more experienced counsellors to provide the best services to you.
Recognizing you need support and deciding to reach out is a big step! You are more than welcome to connect with me by email or on the "Contact" page. We will plan a time to schedule a 15 minute phone consultation where we will discuss what therapy could look like together. If you are interested, we will schedule our first Initial Therapy Session to begin discussing your experience and goals for our time together.
Sometimes in therapy, things get harder before they get better. An increase in challenges during therapy is not necessarily a sign of therapy failing, but it is important to have open conversations with your counsellor to identify coping skills and supports needed to keep you safe and well. With time, you will see therapy working for you when your symptoms or experiences improve. You may also notice improvements in other areas of your life. Ultimately, you know therapy is working for you when you feel it is working for you. Only you will know when the connection with your therapist is a good fit, someone you feel safe and comfortable with when discussing vulnerable topics.
I have a fee of $140 for individual therapy sessions, plus GST. I conduct my scheduling and billing using Jane. On Jane, we can add your credit card information for direct billing at the end of sessions or, if required, we can look at bank e-transfers.
At the moment my sliding scale offerings are full. I offer sliding scale rates to clients with financial need and as a redistribution effort based on marginalized experiences. If you are in need of support at a flexible cost, please see my "Resources" page or contact me to discuss matching you with supports that meet your needs.
I am unable to directly bill your extended benefits provider for our counselling sessions. Because I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), your benefits may cover counselling. Please speak with your insurance provider to determine your personal coverage under your plan. If you have coverage, you will then be able to submit your receipts and be reimbursed.
A Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is a counsellor governed by the regulatory body, the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). The BCACC sets the ethical code and standards of practice for counsellors who practice in BC. The BCACC also protects my clients and provides them support in the event of complaints or regulatory issues. My RCC designation allows me to work with clients who reside in the province of BC, ensuring safe and supported therapeutic practice.
Hello, my name is Bethany. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor specialized in eating disorders and body image counselling. I offer virtual counselling to residents of British Columbia with my practice Bethany Counselling.
