Bethany currently has a brief waitlist for session openings in the new year
Here you will find some common questions I receive. Please reach out to me if you cannot find an answer to your question.
At the moment, I am only offering online therapy due to my remote location. I appreciate that online therapy can offer many people access to specialized mental health supports; however, I understand some people prefer to work in-person. Please contact me or see my "Resources" page if you are looking for other counselling or mental health resources.
At the moment, I primarily work with individual clients, but I have training in family models of therapy and am open to having a conversation to determine whether we can work together effectively based on you and your loved one's needs.
I am currently a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I have been in various support roles in the mental health field for nearly 10 years. Prior to then, I started my mental health journey with lived experience and personal counselling. I understand how important a strong therapeutic relationship is to one's healing journey and experience in counselling. I have completed two psychology degrees and worked or volunteered in a variety of helping positions. Some populations I have worked in include adults and youth in recovery from eating disorders, at-risk youth experiencing family and relationship conflict, individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction, and Indigenous youth in the foster care system. During my counselling studies, I had the honor of working with the eating disorders population as a counselling intern. It is my commitment to ensure I am receiving ongoing training and supervision from more experienced counsellors to provide the best services to you.
Recognizing you need support and deciding to reach out is a big step! You are more than welcome to connect with me by email or on the "Contact" page. We will plan a time to schedule a 15 minute phone consultation where we will discuss what therapy could look like together. If you are interested, we will schedule our first Initial Therapy Session to begin discussing your experience and goals for our time together.
Sometimes in therapy, things get harder before they get better. We may discuss and process heavy topics that surface emotions of grief, sadness, anger, or shame. An increase in challenges during therapy is not necessarily a sign of therapy failing, but it is important to have open conversations with your counsellor to identify coping skills and supports needed to keep you safe and well. Having a strong relationship with your therapist built on trust and safety is an essential ingredient to therapy. Only you will know when the connection with your therapist is a good fit and supports your needs. With time, you will see therapy working for you when your symptoms or experiences improve, when you gain more insights into your experiences, or general feelings of relief and self-compassion. Ultimately, you know therapy is working for you when you feel it is working for you.
I have a fee of $160 for 50-minute individual therapy sessions, plus GST. I conduct my scheduling and billing using Jane. On Jane, we can add your credit card information for direct billing at the end of sessions or I accept e-transfer payments. I am also approved to direct bill to select insurance providers. Please view the drop-down question below on insurance billing for more information.
At the moment my sliding scale offerings are full. I offer sliding scale rates to clients with financial need and as a redistribution effort based on marginalized experiences. If you are in need of support at a flexible cost, please see my "Resources" page or contact me to discuss matching you with supports that meet your needs.
I am approved to direct bill to select insurance providers as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) on the Telus eClaims portal:
If you have extended benefits coverage for counselling and are covered by one of the above approved Telus eClaims providers, please let me know. You will be asked to complete a consent form and provide your benefits information. You are responsible to cover the remaining balance for your session rate by credit card or e-transfer payments. Alternatively, if you have extended benefits coverage, you can cover your counselling fee and submit your own receipts to be reimbursed.
A Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is a counsellor governed by the regulatory body, the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). The BCACC sets the ethical code and standards of practice for counsellors who practice in BC. The BCACC also protects my clients and provides them support in the event of complaints or regulatory issues. My RCC designation allows me to work with clients who reside in the province of BC, ensuring safe and supported therapeutic practice.
Hello, my name is Bethany. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor specialized in eating disorders and body image counselling.
